Everyone tells you to relax, put your feet up and don't stress when you're pregnant. Well they are right! But easier said than done. It's normal to have some stress in your life but if it's getting overwhelming here are some key reasons why you need to de stress and relax as much as possible while you're pregnant. You want to avoid extra levels of the stress hormone cortisol rising in your body. Higher levels of cortisol can increases your blood pressure and your heart rate, and slows down your metabolism. If you have excessively high levels of stress there is an extra risk of a pre-term baby or a low birth weight baby. All the more reason to relax and have some time out when you can.
A great way to do this is to make time for yourself, do things you love and you can even try meditation. Victoria Kasunic a Psychologist, Speaker and Author has developed

"Meditation for people who say they can't meditate" has a few words to say on Mediation.

Meditation is a great tool for managing stress and has been a popular technique in Eastern philosophies for centuries. Meditation is an attentional focus technique which works from the mind to the muscles, relaxing the mind to relax the body. Regular meditation is said to not only reduce your stress but it also seems to light up the centres in the brain associated with happiness.

Many people find meditation difficult or think that they just can’t do it!  Meditation can be challenging. It sounds easy – just sit, be quiet, notice your breathing and stop thinking! Actually meditation is not about the absence of thought, it’s about you learning to focus your attention on what you choose and allowing your mind the time and space to settle down and relax. Guided meditation is fantastic as a tool to get you started on your meditation practice.

Guided meditation is meditation that is guided via an audio recording, an app or even in a yoga class. It can also be useful for experienced meditators as a means to refresh or deepen their practice. You don’t have to worry about your thoughts because you are listening to the guide and following their instructions as to where to put your thoughts and focus. It’s easy to be distracted by your thoughts and to be carried away with them, but with the gentle encouragement of a guide, your thoughts get back on track.

Meditation for People Who Say They Can’t Meditate was designed for people who find it hard to connect with that quiet space within in the midst of their busy lives and can also be useful for people who struggle to switch off at the end of the day. This guided meditation can be used daily or whenever you really need to relax, and is a great way to begin a regular mediation practice.
